It will deploy 22 more patrols especially in and around schools to avoid congestion. The plan and an education programme the department is planning are designed to create an academic year free of traffic accidents when transporting students to schools and back home.

The plans were discussed at a meeting chaired by Dr Ali Rashid Al Yamahi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, with the heads and directors of police stations and branches in the emirate.

“The department has laid down a plan to monitor the roads, including the deployment of 22 patrols in addition to other patrols of intelligence and traffic control to keep an eye on the main streets and side roads near schools,” Dr Al Yamahi said.

“A comprehensive education programme on the security and safety of students has also been prepared. It is part of the fourth traffic campaign, which targets all segments of society, and boost the role of school, parents, school management, teaching staff, school bus drivers and supervisors, outlining how each of them can contribute to the safety and security of the students during the academic year.”

“The three-month campaign will commence with the beginning of the new school year, and will include a series of lectures for students in collaboration with the Fujairah Education Zone,” said First Lieutenant Mohammed Hassan Al Bisri. —salah@khaleejtimes.com
