Majority of schools in Sharjah have green spaces for physical activity, a study has revealed.
The survey, carried out by the emirate’s Health Promotion Department (HPD), looked into how healthy schools’ environments are for their students. Results were released ahead of the implementation of the updated Healthy Schools Programme standards.
The research found that 70 per cent of private schools in the emirate have green spaces for physical activity. Among public schools, 58 per cent have these areas.
It also showed that 100 per cent of public schools and 86 per cent of private schools have a healthy food supply policy. Healthy food habits are also practised at the canteens in majority of private and public schools at 86 and 90.5 per cent, respectively.
“The study included accurate results that will contribute to the implementation of the new standards of the Healthy Schools Programme,” said Iman Rashid Saif, director of the HPD.
