The meeting came as divisions grow in Europe over the proposed tariffs
Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, lauded the impressive growth of the University of Wollongong (UOWD) in its first 20 years and its vision reflecting the country’s policies.
Addressing guests at the 20th anniversary gala dinner of UOWD on Wednesday, Shaikh Nahyan highlighted the contribution of the 7,000 graduates from the UOWD working in the UAE. “UOWD has provided sound education and academic dispense that are vital to the UAE. Our higher education system has benefited from its dynamic activities in the UAE that successfully communicated and strengthened the bond between the two countries,” he said.
The UAE emphasises diversity is what makes the country a vibrant global community supporting enterprises in all fields, including education, he said. “UOWD seized that opportunity in 1993, and continued to build successes and move forward with the assurance of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.”
Shaikh Nahyan said several factors attract students to the university of which diversity in student population and extensive cultural support networks have appealed to him the most.
Shaikh Nahyan received a gift from Professor Trevor Spedding, president of UOWD, who also expressed his gratitude to Shaikh Nahyan for the inspiration and direction he has given to the university for 20 years. This was followed by a presentation of the UOWD’s journey in the UAE for 20 years.
