Dubai - UAE’s public schools will see a revamp of textbooks and digital content by 2018 as part of a new plan by the Ministry of Education to focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
“The Ministry of Education has adopted an ambitious plan from this year until 2021 that is centered on innovation. This will allow our schools to be the best incubators for creativity,” said Marwan Ahmad Al Sawaleh, Undersecretary, UAE Ministry of Education. His comments came on the first day of the Microsoft in Education Global Forum hosted for the first time in the Middle East on Sunday.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, the senior official said: “We will rewrite our curriculum with a focus on innovation and 21st century learning. By 2018-19, our entire curriculum will change and this will include new textbooks and digital content. School incubators will be introduced and future training and professional development programme for educators will focus on innovation.”
In his keynote address, Anthony Salcito, Vice-President, Worldwide Education, Microsoft said: “We need to enable every student across every classroom to expect a bright future. Regardless of where they are, they should be able to achieve amazing things.”
Microsoft announced the availability of Office 365 ProPlus to students, faculty and staff at no charge.
“We’re committed to making the technology needed for college and career readiness available to as many students as possible,” said Anthony.
Microsoft technology is used in over 98 per cent of schools worldwide.
The two-day forum brings together 500 educators from nearly 40 countries across the Middle East, Africa and India. -muaz@khaleejtimes.com
