Promising students get chance to make a mark

Budding Emirati scientists will now get the necessary support - financial and technical assistance - from four public and private sector investors in partnership with the Emirates Foundation. Selected projects of the Think Science programme - that aims to encourage UAE youth develop their knowledge in the field of science and technology - will receive mentoring and training as well as a platform to learn and enhance their scientific knowledge and skills.
Emirates Foundation announced that Think Science investors - Adnoc, Total, Injazat and Khalifa Fund - will provide advisory support to the Emirati youth and act as incubators for their inventions to help transform their ideas from working prototypes into models that have real-life industrial and commercial applications.
Think Science programme was launched in 2012 as part of the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development's efforts to inspire and encourage UAE youth to embrace careers in science.
The announcement follows the recent Think Science Fair, held on May 5-7, 2015, that culminated in an awards ceremony during which 27 prizes were awarded to top scientific innovations from school and university youth.
Emirates Foundation CEO Clare Woodcraft-Scott said: "At Emirates Foundation...we want to make sure local scientific talent gets as much assistance as possible. Through our strategic partnerships with the public and private sectors, we are focused on providing young scientists with the skills and knowledge to make the most of their talents and realise their full potential...I am confident that the projects selected for incubation will go on to have a real impact in the UAE and beyond, and contribute to the growth of our scientific sector."
Hatem Nusseibeh, Total UAE president, said he sees huge potential in each of the selected projects. "The projects we have chosen really stood out to us and they certainly tick all of the right boxes. We look forward to working with these talented young people and can't wait to see where their projects take us."
