The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, for the first time ever, has a female principal for a boys' school. The move has been welcomed by parents here.
Adnan Ukasha, Jordanian, said the UAE in general and Ras Al Khaimah in particular have opened the door for women empowerment. "We have female leaders in almost every aspect of life here, and this is mostly based on competencies." In her thirties, Manal Al Ghadani, an Emirati and former Arabic teacher assumed her new position at the Shaml School for Basic Education - Boys during the beginning of the second semester.
During her first days at school, she met with her teaching and administrative staff, and parents and discussed possible ways to develop the educational process.
A source at the RAK education zone told Khaleej Times that more women are to be appointed in the administrative sector in the school where 463 boys of Grade 1 to 9, are studying. "Al Ghadani will soon get a female assistant, as well."
Al Ghadani started her career as an Arabic teacher, and was promoted to an academic counselor. Then she became in-charge of the students affairs unit at the Nora bint Sultan school for girls, he added.
Al Ghadani's profile and diverse experience qualified her for the position. "I feel proud and honoured to hold this important management job which has nothing to do with one's gender," she said. "It is all about qualifications and skills."
