Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Education Council's (Adec) scholarship programme for 2015-2016 is now open for top achieving Emirati students.
Eligible Grade 12 graduates and university undergraduates who plan to continue their education in top-notch universities across the UAE and/or abroad are encouraged to submit their applications until April 15.
The programme offers students a scholarship in subjects such as Medicine, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Education, Urban Planning, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The scholarship is open for high-performing Emirati students, below 24 years of age, and who have scored 85 per cent and above on their General Secondary Certificate or its equivalent.
In addition, current university students who have completed 30 credit hours in one of the majors approved by the Adec while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 are also welcome to apply for scholarships. Only applicants who pass the interview and tests will be accepted.
“The Adec’s scholarship programme is offered every year to provide top students with greater opportunities to encourage continual academic development,” said Mona Majed Al Mansoori, Guidance and Scholarships manager at the council, adding that scholars must study majors most needed in the labour market to help realise the goals of Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030.
There are currently 1,380 scholars in the UAE and abroad, 100 scholars graduate every year from leading universities. The Adec oversees scholars’ academic and financial aspects and helps secure good jobs for them after graduation.
Scholars enjoy a wide range of benefits and allowances throughout their study period. These include covering tuition fees, monthly stipend, and additional incentives for top achievers, travel arrangement costs, housing allowance, textbooks and medical insurance.
All applications are submitted, processed and approved online. Interested applicants can visit www.adec.ac.ae.
