Over 1,250 school bus drivers and supervisors have benefited from a traffic awareness programme conducted by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police to improve school transport safety standards for students in the 2014-2015 academic year.
The programme, titled “Student Safety Is Our Prerogative”, is part of the department’s back-to-school programme and is coordinated with Emirates Transport in Abu Dhabi.
Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Acting Head of the Al Ain Traffic Section at the directorate, said as part of implementing safety efforts, the traffic department has stepped up its traffic patrol presence in prime locations across Al Ain. Al Hemairi also praised efforts being made to enhance and modernise the School Road area in the city in time for the new school year.
Speaking during one of the lectures, Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamsi, Acting Director of Public Relations Section, said it is vitally important for school bus drivers and supervisors to abide by traffic laws and rules and do everything they can to ensure the safe transportation of students.
