Sharjah — In order to tackle the negative conduct of students in schools, members of the education committee in the Sharjah Consultative Council voiced their concern about the importance of having school police in civil uniforms.
The committee during its meeting on Thursday also recommended the establishment of a specialised rehabilitation centre to provide social and psychological services to needy students and to control the selling of electronic games that encourages violence.
These actions have been made following the increase of violence, drug use, bunking classes and smoking habits among students.
The committee said the new student conduct draft law must include tough punishment for those indulging in violence, assaults and other negative practices in schools.
A member of the committee told Khaleej Times that the committee will refer the recommendation and solution to higher authorities for approval to be implemented for the next academic year. “We will be working together with departments concerned, school managements and families.”
A top official at the Sharjah Education Zone, confirmed that they have received a lot of complaints about students’ misbehaviour and conducts at schools.
Col Sultan Al Khayal, Head of the Awareness and Public Relation department, said the police are making great efforts in spreading awareness about dangers of drugs and violence among students.
