Shaikh Sultan approves Dh727m budget for Sharjah University

The new budget is aimed at boosting the university’s academic services for more than 12,000 students enrolled in 83 programmes.

His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), on Sunday approved a Dh727 million budget for the university’s 2014-2015 academic year. This marks an increase of 30 per cent from the previous budget for the current academic year 2013-2014.

The announcement came as Dr Shaikh Sultan chaired the 37th meeting of the board of trustees of the UoS in London.

The new budget is aimed at boosting the university’s academic services for more than 12,000 students enrolled in 83 programmes at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels making the institution a vibrant learning environment.

During the meeting, Dr Shaikh Sultan also appointed Professor Hamid Majol Al Naimiy as Director of University of Sharjah.

In his remarks during the meeting, Dr Shaikh Sultan hailed the steady progress being made by the UoS, its academic and scientific accomplishments, and alliance with renowned global universities and research institutions. He also noted the ability of the UoS to meet the demands of social development.

During the meeting, the board of trustees discussed a number of reports on the performance of the university. The board noted that ten more academic programmes, including two for masters degrees and three for doctoral degrees, will soon receive academic accreditation taking up the total number of programmes offered by the UoS to 93.

The UoS board of trustees also created the position of deputy director of the university for post-graduate studies and scientific research, and the position of dean of quality assurance, institutional efficiency and accreditation.
