Sharjah - Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), attended the graduation ceremony of the first batch of graduates from EBDA, a programme aimed at training young Emiratis to fill leading positions in cultural institutions in Sharjah and the UAE.
The young leaders’ cultural management programme was held by Her Highness’ Executive Office in the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club on Thursday.
Launched in September 2013, the year-and-a-half long professional training programme, EBDA (“start” in Arabic), saw a talented group of young Emiratis take part in a four-phase programme with the aim of equipping them to become future leaders in cultural organisations.
The programme included on-the-job training, which gave participants the opportunity to gain experience during a series of job placements within a cultural organisation, as well as a classroom training element. Forty classroom days were scheduled for them to delve into the finer details of a wide selection of leadership and management related topics, ranging from management essentials, communication and business etiquette, to creative problem solving, motivating employees, and stress management.
All the graduates also had the opportunity to work on the organisation of the Sharjah International Book Fair where they gained invaluable practical exposure to the realities of organising world class cultural events.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaikha Bodour commended the graduates for the commitment, dedication, and passion they had demonstrated throughout the programme and urged them to learn, grow, and expand their skills. She also thanked the programme supervisors for taking the time to make the programme a priority.
Ahmed Al Suwaidi, EBDA’ Programme Manager, said it aims to empower UAE nationals through training in accordance with a practical approach adopted by managements of cultural institutions.
