Teams of students from Zayed University have started visiting seven schools in Dubai to share health knowledge and tips with students.

The first phase of the campaign began early this year with submissions of concepts from the Zayed University students. The second phase will see students of Zayed University visiting schools in Dubai to undertake the practical side of their health awareness projects.

Eight teams of students will visit schools on various occasions to educate students on healthy practices and behaviour, with the aim of contributing to a new generation of health-conscious community.

Commenting on the second phase of the CHIP initiative, Dr Chris Southgate, dean of the College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities at Zayed University, said: “The second phase is very critical for this leading health education programme as it will help identify ... the winning teams.

“Students will have to get the most out of their creativity to present their health knowledge in a way that is convincing and impactful.”

Dr Usama Al Alami, project leader at Zayed University, said: “This campaign began with a clear focus to produce projects which demonstrate real life concepts in order to experience greater insights into the student experience and student teams should be able to showcase that perfectly.”

Competing students’ teams will be filmed during their visits to schools. The eight competing concepts are: Make diets healthy and right — enhancing awareness of health diets; Life with Obesity — promoting childhood wellness; Healthy-Licious ME — making right nutritional choices; Promoting healthy eating is schools — promoting positive wellbeing; Health Champions — nutrition and physical activity; FAD diets; iControl Stress Management Campaign — adopting stress management techniques in everyday lives; and Foster Your Healthy Spirit — maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“We are very happy to be part of this awareness initiative and we are enthusiastic to pass our health knowledge to schoolchildren to increase their awareness and encourage them to adopt healthy habits and behaviour. We are grateful to Zayed University and all the partners that have supported this project,” said Mahaba Al Saleh, a Zayed University student.

Depending on the merits of proposals and the creativity involved in presenting them to school children, the jury will choose winning teams.
