Around 60 students from Al Ardh Al Saeedah School and scores of employees from Musaffah Municipal Centre took part recently in a clean up campaign run by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in collaboration with the Community Police.
The clean up took place around Abu Dhabi Gate beach. A public waterfront area particularly popular with Arabs, Asians and Emiratis, the Abu Dhabi Gate beach was long in need of a clean up, as participants collected and removed approximately one tonne of various types of waste, including metal and plastic containers, recyclable wood, plastic bags and bottles, cans and leftovers.
All the reusable waste was then sent by the municipality to Abu Dhabi Centre for Waste Management, 'Tadweer', for recycling.
According to the municipality, the campaign was meant to promote the culture of social responsibility, and bolster cooperation with partners in preserving the environment. The municipality reminded all beachgoers of the importance of abiding by environmental standards and values ??to protect these facilities from all types of pollutants and disfiguring elements.
