Sultan orders fee waiver for needy students in Sharjah

Students at the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) who cannot afford school fees were exempted by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Sharjah’s Emiri Court has earmarked funds to support physically disabled persons and those who cannot afford expenses at the SCHS, Shaikh Sultan said in a call to Sharjah Radio and Television’s “Direct Line” in response to a complaint by Abu Omran, father of a physically disabled child. “We are fully responsible for Abu Omran’s son. We wish him speedy recovery,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Sultan gave orders to grant 216 additional scholarships to national students at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the University of Sharjah (UoS). He also gave orders to exempt 214 students from paying enrolment fees to the two varsities and to give them an opportunity to return the funds upon graduation.

Sharjah Ruler’s Adviser for Higher Education Affairs Dr Amr Abdul Hameed told the call-in that Shaikh Sultan also ordered a halt to co-ed classes at the University of Sharjah and to suspend giving scholarships to teaching and 
administrative staff’s sons and daughters to the next semester.
