Four UAE schoolgirls from Al Sadiq Islamic English School, Dubai, have been declared international winners by the British Council in the 'Your World' competition in which students from schools around the world took part.
The UAE students - Warisha Shoaib, Maryam Noor, Rakshan Wazir and Zulakha Muhammad - competed with their counterparts from Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan, Malawi and many other countries from across the world in this global competition.
"We were delighted to discover that students from Al Sadiq Islamic English School were both regional and international winners in the 'Your World' competition in the 14-16 year old category," said Nick Godfrey, British Council's Regional Examinations Manager, Middle East South.
"The winning video The Theory of Life is a wonderful example of young people sharing their thoughts on life and showing their personal perspective of the UAE. The film clearly impressed the judges. It represents a huge recognition of the winning students, Al Sadiq Islamic English School and the UAE. We at British Council would like to warmly congratulate them."
The four winners will be flown to London this summer to attend courses at a British Council accredited school and to savour the culture of the UK.
Tajammul A. Mirza, principal of Al Sadiq Islamic English School, said: "Our students' effort in making this short video and entering it into the competition was a highly challenging and creative process. We are proud of our young and ?talented girls."
The 'Your World' competition allowed groups of learners to make videos about their lives in their community.
