The Ministry of Education has banned public and private schools and nurseries from asking parents for money for graduation ceremonies. 
This is to prevent parents from being overburdened with excessive financial commitments at the end of the year. 
A circular was issued to schools in schools in UAE regarding the matter.
Graduation ceremonies are set to take place after Eid Al Fitr and the official school calendar. 
The ministry banned graduation ceremonies from taking place anywhere outside school premises so parents are not charged for the cost. Graduation ceremonies should be held in a safe and secure manner as a top priority. 
The circular stressed that ceremonies must not have elements or content which is deemed incompatible with Islamic Sharia. Ceremonies should comprise elements which promote patriotism. 
Those wishing to contribute to the graduation or sponsor it can do so after obtaining approval from the concerned authorities.         
The ministry stressed that such ceremonies be held either in the school or in communal halls which do not require any monetary compensation. Children should not be denied entry to the ceremony because they did not pay the 'fee'. 
On a separate matter, some teachers from a few private schools lamented how their administration requires they give money to buy gold as a gift for the principal, reported Al Khaleej.
This is seen as a way of showing the school's appreciation for her service.
