At a special award ceremony, the Dubai Men's College (DMC) honoured around 150 students for their outstanding academic achievements, special performance during the academic year in special events, and competence in organising a number of challenging events.
The ceremony was attended by the Higher Colleges of Technology's new Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jim Horton, Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Director (Community Relations and Manpower Development) at HCT, Norman Gray, Director of DMC, VIPs, officials from local government departments and the faculty and staff of the College.
The top honours of the day, which included the award for 'Man of the Year 2002', was bagged by Hashim Abdelrahman Al Tamimee, who will graduate this year from the aviation programme. The 'Man of the Year 2003' award was bagged by Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, a third year aviation programme student.
The award is presented every year to one student in appreciation of his overall performance in academics, social and sports activities as well as outstanding Student administration and council activities.
The Chancellor awards for 2003 went to Taha Al Hamri (Bachelors degree) and the higher diploma certificate was bagged by Yousif Humaid Al Marri, while the Diploma certificate was awarded to Ameer Al Awadi and the Certificate award to Mohammed bin Kamil.
The awards ceremony also witnessed the recognition of the efforts of special groups of students as the DMC Recruitment Group who helped in the campaign at the high schools to inform students about DMC.
Students who participated in the Dubai Shoping Festival 2003 in the construction of Murrabba at Umm Rayool at Wafi City received the honours, in addition to a group of students who participated in the Sky Van aircraft project.
The other awards included honours for students for contributing actively in the college activities during the year, award for participation in Cisco conference and the award for best students of the sports team.
