Dr Murad has been selected as a result of his increasing involvement and efforts in developing IHP strategies as a member on the UAE national committee of the IHP since 2005. He also chaired the finance committee on the governing board for the IHP from 2010 until 2012.
He is scheduled to participate in a strategic high-level meeting on ‘Water Security and Cooperation’ that will be held within the framework of the ‘International Year for Water Cooperation 2013’, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from September 11 to 13. It is organised by IHP and the government of Kenya.
The meeting will discuss issues related to international water security, as well as, co-operation in Africa. The meeting will also focus on the issue of freshwater in Africa and the existing opportunities and barriers and how these can affect water security.
As part of his presentation, Murad will identify suitable goals and strategies needed based on the vision of the participating countries, IHP and the strategic partners to implement the strategic plan that will be the base for the governmental co-operation within the IHP for the next eight years.
The meeting will also highlight the importance of water cooperation between Unesco members through the research centres that are sponsored by Unesco and which Unesco chairs all over the world.
“This meeting is very important as it reflects the priority of the region in the formulation of a strategy for implementing IHP-VII,” Dr. Murad said.
