A new cohort of academically gifted students was welcomed to the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) recently during a formal scholarship ceremony.
Celebrating one of the University's largest intakes of students meeting the rigorous standards to achieve scholarships of between 15 and 50 per cent, over 170 scholarships were awarded in front of an audience of family members and University faculty.
Fifty-seven per cent of the scholarships available were awarded to high achieving female students. Amongst the top performing students was Nicole Alemao, who joined UOWD from Al Diyafah School with 4 AS Levels at grade A, Miss Chandani Vaya Ratilal Vallabhdas, who joined with a CBSE score of 95.6 per cent and Miss Sana Ali Al Ashrafy, who completed grade 12 with 98.6 per cent. All three students are enjoying a 50 per cent scholarship.
Professor Mohamed Salem, president of UOWD, commented: "This semester we have awarded scholarships worth Dh1.6 million, together with a bursary fund for students facing financial hardships and assistance for our alumni to continue with postgraduate study. The scholarship fund has allowed some of the UAE's rising academic stars to benefit from a quality education from one of the UAE's oldest private universities. We are delighted to be able to celebrate the accomplishments of our students."
