A huge fire consumed a dhow docked at Dubai Creek on Friday that caused thick black smoke rising up the Deira skyline. The fire broke out around 5.30pm and was immediately put under control, an official from the Dubai Civil Defence confirmed to Khaleej Times.
The official said firefighters from the Port area, Karama, Hamriya and Al Ras fire stations rushed to the site opposite Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights.
The dhow was loaded with tyres and other flammable materials, including diesel and petroleum products that caused the thick black smoke. But no injuries were reported.
In a separate incident, a minor fire broke out and was quickly extinguished at a construction site in Dubai Production City around 12.30pm on Friday.
