14 sailors were rescued by Dubai Police after their ship was stranded near wave breakers on Wednesday.
The operations room received a notification at 6.14am.
Due to extreme winds whipping the waves to dangerously high levels, a ship had gotten stranded near the Deira Island wave breaker. They were close to drowning after the ship's motor broke down.
Air wing patrols, rescue boats and land patrols were dispatched to the scene but could not reach the marooned ship.
The ship was too masive for the rescue boats to reach safely, so they stretched ropes from the ship to the wave breaker. Rescuers and divers were able to pull the sailors to safety in 35 minutes, despite turbulent weather and choppy waters.
Colonel Saeed Al Madhani, acting director of Dubai Port Police, said that rescue team dealt with the situation with extreme finesse and expertise.

Al Madhani warned sailors to follow safety guides and refrain from seafaring under dangerous conditions.
In the event of an emergency, call 999 and describe the situation and location accurately to help rescuers reach you in time, related Al Madhani.
