An auto spare parts scrap yard in Sharjah was gutted in a fire that broke out on Saturday. The blaze erupted at 4.55pm in the emirate’s industrial area no. 2, civil defence officials said.
All the auto parts stored in the yard were destroyed, triggering a pall of thick, black smoke, which caused panic among residents in nearby neighbourhoods.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Colonel Sami Al Naqbi, Director-General of the Sharjah Civil Defence, said firefighters from three stations rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control within an hour.
The officer urged the establishments operating in industrial areas to strictly observe fire safety regulations and ensure that materials in warehouses and scrap shops are stored safely.
