A Grade 5 student succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday almost two weeks after an accident in the UAE.

He was a student of India International School in Sharjah.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the school identified the boy as Abdullah Zamir Kazi, son of Zamir Kazi, a resident of Muwaileh in Sharjah.

The school said he died on Wednesday, after a “motor accident”.

The boy was hit by a car near his residence when he was going to a stationary shop to get a photocopy of his assignments. He was admitted to the University Hospital in Sharjah on May 24 and had been unconscious since then. He succumbed to his injuries on June 9.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, P.A. Ibrahim Haji, chairman of PACE Education group, said: “We are very saddened by the incident. We express our deepest condolences to the family of our departed student. May Almighty Allah give the family strength and patience to bear the loss.”

Salman Ibrahim, director of the school; Asif Mohammed, senior director; school principal Dr Manju Reji, along with teachers and students, visited Abdullah’s house to offer condolences to the bereaved family.

Dr Reji said, “It came as a shock to me. Abdullah was a bright student and was good in academics and extracurricular activities. He was with us from the 1st standard.”

The last rites of Abdullah were conducted after Zohar prayers on Thursday in Sharjah.

Abdullah’s younger brother (Grade 1) and elder brother (Grade 9), study at the same school.
