An armed man has opened fire in cinema complex in Germany, reports said on Thursday, June 23.

As many as 50 injured
The shooter has barriacaded himself in the complex in the town of Viernheim. As many as 50 people have been wounded in a shooting at a cinema complex in Germany, according to local media reports.
He is alleged to have entered the Kinopolis in Viernheim, south of Frankfurt, where he shot his gun into the air, according to a report in Metro.

Dozens of people are believed to have fled the cinema and police are on the scene.

Police say it's an "unclear threat situation"
Police have said there is an "unclear threat situation" probably involving a weapon at a movie theatre, reports Sky News. A spokeswoman said she could not provide any further information on what was happening.

TV media is also reporting that helicopters were seen in the area and specialist officers are on their way to the scene.
Motive unclear
German police's special response unit have closed off an area around the cinema complex.
The motive of the gunman was so far unclear, Frankfurter Allgemeine reported, saying that several scenarios were being considered including a botched robbery, as well as a political or an ideological cause.
