A reckless Lithuanian lorry driver has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for causing serious injury by hitting a line of vehicles near Kent.
According to the Daily Mail, Vygantas Stanulis, 55, from Lithuania, failed to stop during rush-hour tailbacks smashing the front of a stationary black Ford Fiesta. Dramatic dashcam footage has captured the moment the car driver's legs flew out of his vehicle while debris littered the road.
Daily Mail reports, "his vehicle, fully laden with steel, collided with a black Ford Fiesta which in turn hit a Iveco flatbed lorry carrying wooden pallets."
Despite wearing a seatbelt, the driver of the Fiesta, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull, two fractured vertebrae, a fractured ankle, knee and shin bone and facial injuries.
The incident took place along the coast-bound carriageway of the A2 towards Dover at Harbledown at 8.35am on January 19.
The lorry driver, Stanulis, pleaded guilty after initially denying the charge.
Kent Police told The Daily Mail: "Stanulis told us he had taken his eyes off the road for a second to look at two lorries parked in a layby. He described it as a momentary lapse in concentration."
