A 48-year-old man fell down a drain in London and was trapped for three days before he was rescued on February 8. The man made desperate efforts to find an opening through the sewage pipelines so that he could emerge safely. But, his ordeal went on for up to 72 hours until people heard cries for help coming from beneath the road.
The video footage shows a man being pulled out of the sewer in Romford, east London, who claimed that he had fallen in a drain some six miles away on February 5 but was unable to find a manhole so he walked along the tunnel, according to reports in Mirror.
Hearing the man's cries, a woman named Sam Palmer, rushed to rescue the man along with a couple of other people. Palmer, who was filming the incident, said, "As soon as he emerged into daylight he asked 'does anyone have a fag'?
Officers had to remove a manhole cover to pull the man out of the drain before he was rushed to hospital by paramedics.
Palmer said, "He looked very dishevelled but at that moment, the crowd gave a sigh of relief as we knew he was okay. Before that we had all been really worried. It was unbelievable, certainly something I will never experience again in my life."
The woman added, "We could hear a faint cry for help and we began searching. But we were looking up and all around. He just kept shouting 'help' over and over again but he didn't say that he was in a drain."
