A miracle baby was born to a brain dead mother and survived a record 15 weeks in the womb.
Doctors in Portugal have delivered a healthy baby boy almost four months after his mother, Sandra Pedro was declared brain dead on February 20 due to a brain haemorrhage. He weighed 2.35kg at birth.
The Daily Mirror reported on Saturday, doctors and nurses spent 107 days nurturing the unborn baby, singing soothing songs to him through his mum's belly and even cuddling him.

When the woman was declared brain dead, doctors at the hospital assessed the health of the foetus and consulted with her family, who had the final say on whether to try to keep her body functioning to see gestation through.
Pedro was hooked up to tubes to feed her, keep her breathing and to supply her with essential hormones.
Nurses and doctors then watched in awe over the next 15 weeks as her bump grew as they nurtured the child inside her.

The 37-year-old mother was being kept alive mechanically, obstetricians monitored the foetus's health, and eventually decided to carry out the caesarean section once he had reached 32 weeks of gestation.
Sandra was buried the day after Lourenco was born and her parents are planning to raise the child.
This is not the first time such a case has been reported. There have been other recent reported instances of foetuses surviving long periods in the womb after the mothers have suffered brain death. In January a boy was born in Poland after surviving 55 days inside his brain-dead mother, while in 2013 Hungarian doctors delivered a baby which was kept alive in similar circumstances for 13 weeks.
