As France reels back from the terrorist attack on Friday that claimed at least 84 lives, stories of lucky survivors have begun to surface, including an Indian couple who was vacationing in France's Nice city.
Recounting the horrific event, newlyweds Aishwarya and Akanksha Singh told NDTV.com that there was immediate chaos following the attack at the famous Promenade des Anglais, with hundreds of people - who had gathered for Bastille Day fireworks - running away from the speeding truck.

"We had left the spot just a few minutes before because we were hungry. We went to the McDonalds. We heard screams and shots. People thought there are terrorists and a gunbattle was one" - Aishwarya, the husband.
The couple, who got married in January, also got separated briefly.
Describing the scene following the attack, the husband said that people were frantically running into buildings, trying to hide under tables, behind the fridge or anywhere safe spot.
'At one point, he frantically searched for Akanksha, who had been swept away in a different direction.'
"Luckily we found each other. It happened through the night. We ran, hid, then ran again. We were all bundled into a hotel." - Aishwarya
Back home, the couple's parents spent the night worrying about their safety. Aishwarya's mother Kiran Singh monitored the Nice horror and tried to make contact with her son and daughter-in-law.
The couple had taken refuge inside a hotel.
After learning about the couple on NDTV, the Indian foreign ministry contacted its officials in France and asked them to help the couple.
It is noteworthy that Nice has 1,500 Indian residents.
France has declared three days of mourning in the country.
