Over 900 Lufthansa flights cancelled following crew strike

Lufthansa is cancelling 933 flights at three hubs in Germany after efforts failed to halt a strike by flight attendants.
The cancellations Thursday affect 107,000 travellers going to or from Frankfurt, Munich and Duesseldorf - more passengers than on any day since the strike began Friday.
Altogether Lufthansa has cancelled some 3,700 flights and about 443,000 travellers have been affected.

The cabin crew union UFO wants to secure transition payments for its 19,000 members if they retire early as part of its contract dispute with Lufthansa, which is trying to cut costs.
The travel disruptions highlight the pressure Europe's flagship carriers are under as they struggle to compete with Gulf airlines on long-haul flights between Europe and Asia and with budget brands on regional routes.
