The German is confident of a good performance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.

“It is a great circuit. It is one of the top five tracks in terms of the whole infrastructure and everything is very impressive. It is the only race on the calendar where you start at day and finish at night. It is quite special to finish at night,” he told Khaleej Times after attending the launch of Armin Storm’s luxury watches at the Damas Les Exclusives Store at the Dubai Mall here on Wednesday.

“There are lot of quick corners at the first sector, very slow corners in the middle sector, long straights which is good for overtaking. Then a couple of technical corners around the hotel. So the mix is just very good. It is a very nice, fluent circuit,” he said.

Glock, who started his Formula One career eight years ago with Jordan and later moved to Toyota, backed Sebastian Vettel’s chances of retaining his world title.

“I think it is the best possibility because they have a very strong car and Vettel is very strong at the moment getting every thing together, putting it on pole every time. And then he goes into the first corner in first position and then opens the gap to everyone else and he is very, very quick as well.”

While analysing his team’s performance this season, Glock said: “As a team we improved quite a lot especially in the last couple of races. We had a tough start without any tests. We went to Australia with no testing and finished the race with no KERS and from that point on I think we had good development rates, especially now from the middle of the year where the first updates came out of the wind tunnel were quite positive. We closed the gap with Caterham who are the main competitors in front of us, which is good.

“We still have no KERS in the car which is quite a bit of disadvantage but in general I am happy especially with the last couple of races where we improved and we need to keep that going up further,” he added.

Talking about the chances of a driver in Formula One races, he said: “It is a combination of the team and car.

“You need to have a good team around in order to make very quick fixes. And you need to have a quick car as well.

Looking ahead, Glock wants to see an improvement in the plans of his team. “We need to raise the budget, more people on board, and the step to get KERS on board as well.”
