DUBAI - Sixteen teams will compete in the 27th Our Own Sharjah inter-school soccer tournament to be held from October 22 to November 1 at Sharjah Wanderer’s Club ground. The teams have been divided into four groups for the tournament, which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis.
The groupings: Pool A: The Westminster School; Dubai Modern High School; Our Own English HS, Fujairah; The Indian HS, Dubai. Pool B: Winchester School; Gulf Asian English School; St Mary’s Catholic School; Sharjah Indian School. Pool C: Our Own English HS, Sharjah; Our Own HS; Al Warqa’a; NIMS Sharjah; NIMS Dubai. Pool D: Delhi Private School, Sharjah; Our Own English HS, Al Ain; Emirates National School; The Millennium School.
Meanwhile, the draw ceremony was held on Tuesday at the school premises. In his introductory speech, Thomas Mathew, principal, pointed out that this tournament was envisioned to be a learning experience for the students – learn to win and lose with grace, and to encourage the students to perform well. He also expressed that the thrust of the tourney was to inculcate sportsmanship and urged the coaches to ensure good conduct of the players on the field. The opening ceremony will be held on October 20.
