Milan announced the move on its website Tuesday, shortly after signing Robinho from Manchester City.

Roma said the deal requires it to purchase Borriello’s full contract at the end of the season for ¤10 million ($12.7 million). Borriello signed a contract worth ¤4.5 million ($5.7 million) for this season and ¤5.4 million ($6.85 million) for the following four seasons.

The 28-year-old Borriello was one of the last players cut from Italy’s World Cup squad.

He scored 14 goals for Milan last season but the seven-time European champions had no more room for him with the additions of Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Roma signed Adriano in June but the Brazilian’s Serie A return is on hold for a month due to a right thigh muscle tear.

Roma was held to a 0-0 draw by promoted Cesena in its season opener Saturday.
