Ajman to take on Hatta in President’s Cup opener

Ajman will take on Hatta in the opener of the President’s Cup which will begin on September 20.

As many as 32 clubs from the pro-league and lower divisions will be lining up for honours.

Holders Emirates and league champions Al Wahda will skip the preliminary round of the competition. Al Wahda will take on the winners from the opening game between Ajman and Al Wahda. The Emirates will start their campaign against the best of the match featuring Fujairah against Orouba. The semifinals will be played on March 20-21, 2011, and the date of the final match will be decided later.


The pro-league clubs will have easy encounters in the preliminary round and the tough tests will start only in the round of 16.

The draw ceremony of the President Cup was held at the Al Hamra Fort Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah under the patronage of Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on Sunday.

The event was a great success and it was attended by a big crowd including top officials and newsmen.

Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, president of the UAEFA, addressed the audience at the beginning of the ceremony. Serri Asaad Arar, Deputy CEO- Corporate Banking Services Department at Al Hilal Bank, Shaikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Emirates Club and Khaled Matar, Director of Public Relations, Etisalat, also attended the event.

Two documentaries were shown at the ceremony about the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and the President’s Cup competition. Then Mohammed Matar Ghurab, FA board member and head of the competitions committee, presented a brief explanation about the details of the draw.

The draw ceremony was attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi and a number of top officials of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, clubs representatives and newsmen.

UAE actors Jaber Nagmous and Ahmed Al Ansari along with actresses Sameera Ahmed and Aisha Abdul Rahman were the guest stars at the ceremony.
