Al Shabab made a perfect start to their Arabian Gulf Cup campaign by winning their second game at the Kalba Union Sports and Cultural Club Stadium on Wednesday night.
Al Shabab foreign recruits Tomas De Vincenti, Ruud Boymans and Henrique Luvannor nailed goals against Kalba.
Kalba didn't had the best of the starts and it got bad when midfielder Sulaiman Yussef was awarded a straight red for a rough challenge on striker Ruud Boymans.
Kalba's misery worsened when Shabab newbie De Vincenti opened the scoring with a sensational strike. From a corner, the Argentine played a one-two and targeted the right corner of the Kalba goal. And a diving Ibrahim Essa couldn't save the curling shot.
Both teams were engaged in feisty tackles and yellow cards were a norm. Not much went Kalba's way in the first half.
The final half also was a similar trend. The second goal laid bare the difference between the two sides.
In the 77th minute, Boymans split the defenders to find Luvannor, whose shot was returned by Essa. The Moldova saw Boymans unmarked and slid in a pass for the Dutchman to make it 2-nil. It was easy pickings for the visitors.
It wasn't going to get over yet, not without Luvannor making amends for an earlier miss. Three minutes from time, he toyed with Kalba defence to deposit the ball in the far left corner of the goal. And with this Kalba's miserable night came to a close.
Al Shabab are showing the form that took them to the finals of last year's Cup. With two wins they sit at top of the Group B and Kalba are at the bottom end.
