ABU DHABI — Zobahan coach Mansour Ibrahim Zada put his team’s defeat down to missing a few players but he didn’t take anything away from Al Wahda and said that they were the better team on the night.

Iran’s Zobahan, who lead Group B with 10 points, suffered their first defeat in the AFC Champions League, going down by a solitary goal to Al Wahda at the Al Nahyan Stadium on Wednesday night. It was Al Wahda’s first win in this year’s edition. Al Wahda are out of contention and have no chance of making it to the next round.

Zobahan, who are making their second appearance in the AFC Champions League, have won three drawn one and lost one.

“We weren’t perfect in this match unlike the previous games where we played really well,” Mansour said after the game.

Al Wahda dominated the first half, coming up with a flurry of chances but Zobahan put on a better show in the second half. “I was angry a bit because we were better in the second half but we were denied a penalty,” he said.

Mansour said Al Wahda had no pressure and that helped as they had nothing to lose. “Both teams tried their best but Al Wahda were better tonight. Maybe, because they hadn’t won a game, they were hungrier and that showed in their game tonight,” said Mansour.

Mansour said that he missed a couple of players and said that they will regroup for their next game. Zobahan play Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad in their last AFC Champions League group fixture at home at the Foolad Shahr Stadium on April 28. Al Ittihad are second in Group B.

“We missed a few of our players. We need to address a few issues for our next game. We are thinking of the future and we will put on a better show in the next game,” he said.
