Meanwhile, the Jiu-Jitsu championship gets rollong with a number of contestants from the UAE and abroad taking part in the championship. The championship will feature only fighters with white, blue, violet and brown belts. Weight classes featuring in the event are 65kgs, 74kgs, 83kgs, 92kgs, above 92kgs and open weight classes.
The champion of every weight class will take home a cash prize of Dh 8,000, while the first runner-up pockets Dh 2,000. The fencing championship starts on Saturday. Ninety contestants representing 12 nationalities from within the UAE and abroad, will be vying for honours at the Al Maqta Hall. UAE fencers will parade their wares against some of the finest fencers in the world in the Foil, Epee and Sabre events.
Some of the international fencers participating in the event are the 2010 World Youth Champion Alaa Al-Sayyid of Egypt, Champion of Egypt Ayman Alaadeen Mohammed, who was the 2009 African champion and 2008 World Youth Champion, former Asian champion Fahd Malallah of Kuwait, Arab champion Mohammed Ayoud Al Fargani of Tunisia, Ehad Shaban of Tunisia and many others.
Kuwait are participating with a team of 27 fencers. Other participating countries are Qatar, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Syria, France, Russia and Britain. Twelve international referees of various nationalities will officiate the championship.
The champion in each of the various categories will take home a cash prize of Dh 10,000, while the first and second runners-up will get Dh 5,000 and Dh 2,500 respectively.
Meanwhile, the PlayStation championship entered the quarterfinal stage. Those who have gained an early berth into the quarterfinal stage of the youth Under-16 event are Abdul Aziz Mohammed Karmistaji, Mohammed Abdullah Al Buloushi, Moutaman Abdullah Yusuf, Rashid Salim Al Ghafli, Omar Ali Al Zayoudi, Ahmed Abdullah Al Jenaibi, Khalid Omar Al Jabri and Abdullah Saeed Al Zayoudi.
