The championship was held in various weight classes, including the below 63kgs and above 63kgs categories, as well as the category of holders of Blue, Violet and Brown belts, and those in the weight classes of 65kgs, 74kgs, 83kgs, 92kgs, above 92kgs and open weight.
The preliminary round continued until the early hours of Friday and saw four contestants in each weight class making it to the final rounds. In the 83kgs weight class Abdul Aziz Al Jabri (UAE), Hosni Barhoumi (Tunisia) and Dimetro Titus (Greece) qualified to the final round, while in the 92kgs class Ammar Mutee Ahmed (UAE), Zaid Lafi (Jordan), Sufyan Hawash (Tunisia) and Pablo Leet (Brazil) qualified.
The most thrilling contest came from the above 92kgs weight class events in which the UAE lads showed great class. Those who qualified to the final round from this category include Faisal Fahd Al Kitbi (UAE), Mohammed Saleh Al Minhali (UAE), Rayan Waynd (USA) and Tareq Matar (Egypt).
In the 74kgs weight class, Mohammed Nasser Al Qubaisi (UAE), Tariq Al Kurbi (UAE), Jabir Al Dar’e (UAE) and Hassan Al-Rumaithy (UAE) qualified to the final round to make it an all-UAE affair.
