The two clubs, who finished as runners-up in the Scottish and Portuguese leagues respectively, will meet competitively for the first time in what will be a European baptism of fire for rookie manager Lennon.
The former club captain was appointed manager in the summer after an eight-game winning streak as interim boss following Tony Mowbray’s sacking in March.
And the Northern Irishman has wasted no time in revitalising a squad that lost out on the domestic front and failed to make it past the Europa League group stages last season.
This week Mexican international Efrain Juarez and Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper signed on at Celtic Park to join Joe Ledley, Daryl Murphy, Charlie Mulgrew and South Korean Cha Du-ri and all six should be available for the trip to Portugal.
With no safety net of a Europa League spot for the loser of this tie, Lennon hopes his new recruits can gel quickly in order to keep the Old Firm side’s European adventure alive past August.
“We need something to bite on for the return at Celtic Park,” the Hoops boss said.
“I just want us to stay in the tie for the second leg.
“I am not saying we are going to go there and sit back. We are not.
“Sometimes you do that subconsciously anyway. You might not have a choice in the matter, and we are prepared for that if that scenario appears. But we’d like to take something to Celtic Park, and we will be looking to score a goal over there, if we can.”
Celtic managers have had unhappy times in their European debuts in recent seasons with Gordon Strachan going down 5-0 to Slovakian minnows Artmedia Bratislava while Tony Mowbray lost his first competitive game in charge of the Hoops to Dinamo Moscow at this stage last year.
As a player Lennon enjoyed mixed fortunes with the club in European competition and knows his side need to have a cautious approach.
But the Hoops gaffer is confident his team can make it through to the final qualifying tie.
He said: “We have to be careful, because you think of Bratislava and Basel, where there have been disappointments in the qualifying games. But this is do-able. We are pretty pleased with the way the team has been coming on, and pleased with the players we are getting in.
“Whether we can bed them in in time, we will have to see.”
This will be Braga’s debut bow in the Champions League having edged Porto and Sporting Lisbon to finish second behind Benfica, their highest ever placing.
However Domingos Paciena’s side has had a major overhaul since last season’s heroics with star players Hugo Viana, Luis Aguiar, Evaldo and Portuguese international keeper Eduardo leaving for pastures new and 17 new players arriving at the Estadio AXA.
And while CelticÂappear toÂhave an able replacement forÂdepartedÂkeeper Artur BorucÂin Lukasz Zaluska, Braga have had to offer Mario Felgueiras a two-week contract after releasing him, to cover for injured duo Quim and Artur Moreas.
The Hoops will be encouraged by Braga’s poor form in pre-season losing to Athletic Bilbao and second division Varzim.
But the Portuguese side’s strong performance last season was built around their impressive home form where they won 14 of their 15 games and conceded just six goals.
