Emanuel Villa, Javier Orozco and Alejandro Vela scored to give Cruz Azul a 3-2 win over UANL Tigres, while Santos beat Atlas 3-1 with Carlos Morales, Cristian Benitez and Daniel Luduena scoring second-half goals.
Also on Saturday, Humberto Suazo missed a late penalty as Monterrey drew 1-1 with Chiapas, while Guadalajara played out a scoreless draw with UNAM Pumas. San Luis faced Atlante in the day’s late match.
UAG Estudiantes drew 1-1 with Morelia on Friday.
The sixth round of matches continues Sunday with Puebla vs. Pachuca, Toluca vs. Queretaro and America vs. Necaxa.
Villa scored the opening goal for Cruz Azul at home against Tigres after a poor clearance from the visiting defense, but the lead lasted just a minute as Batista equalized from a cross by Francisco Acuna.
Tigres dominated possession, but fell behind just before half time when a center from Rogelio Chavez was met by a powerful header from Orozco.
Orozco has now scored five goals in the tournament and received his first call-up to the Mexican national squad earlier in the week.
Vela scored a third goal for Cruz Azul with a curling shot with the outside of his left foot, but Tigres cut the deficit again when Itamar Batista pounced on a mistake by defender Joel Huiqui to lob his second goal.
Jorge Torres Nilo was sent off for Tigres in the final minute as Cruz Azul held on to claim its fifth win in six games.
Santos kept pace atop the standings as Carlos Morales opened the scoring at home against Atlas in the 57th minute.
Cristian Benitez extended the lead in the 62nd and Daniel Luduena added a third in the 84th, before Fabricio Fuentes scored a consolation goal for Atlas in the 86th.
Chiapas took the lead at Monterrey with a Danilinho goal in the 24th, but the home side pulled level with a Suazo strike four minutes later.
Monterrey had an opportunity to take all three points, but Suazo skied an 80th-minute penalty.
Monterrey remains unbeaten after six games and sits in third place, three points behind the leaders.
