The professional tournament, which kicks off at 7he Sevens on the Al Ain Road this Friday, will feature AC Milan, Arsenal, Brondby FC, Blackburn Rovers, Celtic, Feyenoord, Leeds and Olympiacos.
Meanwhile, a host of former stars of the game will line up in the legends event, with the likes of Ian Rush, Paolo di Canio, Kerry Dixon and the UAE’s own Adnan Al Talyani taking part in the tournament which includes teams from: AC Milan, Arsenal, Celtic, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Rangers and a UAE 1990 World Cup select.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun meeting up with old teammates again and having another opportunity to play together again,” said former Swedish international Anders Limpar, who will be part of the Arsenal legends side.
Mohammed Mattar – Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Airport Services - expressed his excitement at what promises to be a thrilling three days of top-class football action.
“This is a truly wonderful line-up for our inaugural event and I am certain that the crowds heading to The Sevens this weekend will be treated to some fantastic football,” he said.
“We have recently added the likes of Brondby FC, Blackburn Rovers, Feyenoord and Leeds to the professional line-up which is exciting. And what makes the legends event even more thrilling is that we have our own legends from the team that represented the UAE at the 1990 FIFA World Cup who will also be in on the action. Adding to the incredible atmosphere will be over 300 amateur sides, bringing together a wonderful mix of cultures, ages and nationalities.”
Mohammed Mattar also pointed out that this will be a family-focused event with activities on offer for all ages. One of the four stands has been dedicated to families where adults and children can enjoy the action together in a family-friendly environment. There will also be a children’s play area in the village with numerous inflatable games and other fun activities on offer.
Once the action has come to an end on the pitch, the crowds can continue the party atmosphere with popular Dubai-based band, the Maple Jacks playing on Friday night, while DJ Tim Cheddar will be keeping the entertainment going on Saturday night.
A free bus service will be on offer to transport fans from 7he Sevens back to several convenient locations across Dubai.
Tickets for the tournament are still available from: Go Sport, Virgin, selected Costa and MMI and Choithram outlets, Worldmart, Emirates headquarters, Dnata Travel Centre and 7he Sevens venue itself.
