MWL Secretary General stressed the need for unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians by opening all crossings
It was a fairytale of sorts.
Watched on by General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and a crowd of 33,000, most of them Emirates fans who travelled from Ras Al Khaimah, Emirati coach Eid Baroud’s men scored a 3-1 victory over the four-time President’s Cup champions.
Emirates’ Moroccan forward Nabil Daoudi scored a brace, in the 48th and 77th minutes, and captain Karim Karkar scored in the fourth minute of injury time to put it across Shabab coach Brazilian Paulo Bonamigo’s men. Carlos Renato scored the lone goal for Al Shabab in the 11th minute.
The first half was pretty even with both teams sharing equal possession. Both Al Shabab and Emirates came up with wayward attempts with Shabab’s Carlos Villanueva firing his shot wide and Emirates captain Karim Karkar sending try wide as well.
But it was Al Shabab, who made their opportunity count. They earned a freekick in the 11th minute and it was cleared by the Emirates defence but not far enough. A Shabab player pounced on the stray ball and fired a neat ball in and Brazilian midfielder Carlos Renato controlled it well by chesting it perfectly and fired his shot home to put Shabab ahead.
Emirates came up with a couple of chances but couldn’t find the equaliser. Khamis Ismail fired his crisp long ranger over the bar in the 27th minute and then Adnan Hussain’s threatening left-footer from outside the box was collected by the Shabab goalkeeper Salem Abdulla, in the 32nd minute.
Shabab had an opportunity to double their lead but Eisa Obaid’s long ranger whizzed over the cross bar in the 32nd minute.
Emirates had a chance go to waste in the 39th minute with Adnan Hussain’s dangerous shot going over the bar.
Emirates came up with a better show after the break and earned the equaliser three minutes after the restart. Reza Enayati’s freekick deflected off the wall but headed goalwards. Morocco forward Nabil Daoudi charged in and got the final touch.
The game picked up pace after the equaliser but both teams came up with missed opportunities.
But Emirates, who showed a lot more purpose in the second half, took the lead in the 77th minute.
Nabil Daoudi got a perfect ball in from the middle and he broke the offside trap and headed it home over the advancing goalkeeper Salem Abdulla.
Karkar rounded it off in the fourth minute of injury time with a solo effort.
