The 21-year-old Werder Bremen winger has been included in Germany’s final World Cup squad after trainer Joachim Loew cut Hoffenheim defender Andreas Beck from his 23-man group to travel to South Africa.
Marin impressed after coming off the bench in the friendly 3-0 win against Hungary in Budapest last Saturday and is hoping for another chance against the Safet Susic-coached Bosnians on Thursday.
Having missed out on World Cup qualification after losing their play-off to Portugal, the Bosnians are likely to start with Edin Dzeko, the Bundesliga’s top scorer at Wolfsburg, alongside Hoffenheim’s Vedad Ibisevic up front.
With Germany captain Michael Ballack out of the World Cup, new skipper Philipp Lahm will lead the side, while Loew is expected to name Stuttgart’s Sami Khedira alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger again in Ballack’s midfield role.
Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is struggling to be fit having suffered from an upset stomach since playing Hungary last Saturday.
If he loses his fitness battle, Bremen’s Tim Wiese will deputise.
Germany fly to South Africa this weekend and with their opening game against Australia in Durban on June 13, Marin is hoping for another chance to show what he can do.
Loew looks set to utilise Germany’s promising young attacking midfielders Mesut Oezil, Lukas Podolski and Marin to supply plenty of possession for lone striker Miroslav Klose or Brazilian-born Cacau and Marin is eager to shine.
‘I think that our system, with two defensive and three attacking midfielders, suits me because that’s the system we use at Bremen,’ he told the FIFA website.
‘I’m also happy playing on either flank.
‘My strength is going forward, where I can put my dribbling skills to good use, and that’s something the coach knows as well.’
Germany have been blighted with injuries by the loss of Ballack, midfielder Christian Traesch and defender Heiko Westermann and Marin admitted the loss of their leader has been a blow.
‘I think we’re still coming to terms with being without Michael,’ said the 21-year-old.
‘To lose a major figure like him is a huge blow for us, but there’s nothing we can do to change it.
‘I still believe this team can be successful if we pull together.’
With Germany facing Australia, Ghana and Serbia, formerly part of Yugoslavia, in Group D and Marin admits he is looking forward to the Germany-Serbia match in Port Elizabeth on June 18.
‘The game against Serbia will be special for me of course,’ he said.
‘I was born in the former Yugoslavia and have a lot of friends there. I was a big fan of Yugoslavia as a child, so I hope we can both reach the knockout phase.’
