UAE go down fighting to Iran in final

The UAE missed out on the title, going down to Iran in the final of the Al Rowad seven-a-side Nations Cup Football Tournament at The Dome on Monday night.

UAE went down 2-3 in the final. Moayed Saadoon scored two goals, while Shahriyar Fakhimi scored one for Iran. Roland Aeuya scored both the goals for the UAE. Earlier, when the two teams met in the group stage, the match had ended in a goalless draw.

Iran were richer by Dh 10,000 and also took home a replica of the World Cup Trophy. Sixteen teams took part in the tournament.

In the play-off for the third place, Egypt ‘A’ defeated Canada 7-5 with Mokhtar Ahmad scoring five goals.

The Golden Boot award was shared between Mokhtar Ahmad and Iran’s Shahriyar Fakhimi. Both ended the tournament with 10 goals.
