The tournament is being organised by the AGCC Football Higher Organising Committee. The match will get underway at 7:30pm (UAE time).

The two sides advanced to the semifinals in contrasting fashion. UAE topped the standings of the Group-B with four points after beating Saudi Arabia with Khalil’s solitary goal and split points with Kuwait after a 1-1 draw.

Khalil scored for UAE and Yousuf Nasser levelled for Kuwait. But the home team Qatar made it into the last four on penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw against Bahrain.

In another clash, pre-tournament favourites Oman line up against Kuwait at 5.30pm (UAE time). The Omanis advanced to the knockout stage after claiming impressive 2-0 wins against Qatar and Bahrain and raised their tally to six points while Kuwaitis have collected two points from a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia and a similar result against UAE.

Expectations are very high. Both games are going to be very exciting as all the four teams are in with a chance to claim the title in the second edition of the tournament. Saudi Arabia won the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Meanwhile, UAE players said they are well prepared for the match against Qatar and they are very confident that they will make it to the final. A number of the UAE players said they didn’t show their best form in the past two games due to the strong pressure. Also they had to play those two games in 48 hours.

They have also noted that they need more time to train on the artificial grass. The UAE keeper Yousuf Abdul Rahman, however, said they have every chance to beat the Qataris.

He said: “The UAE players know how to handle their opponents. They are experienced enough after they took part in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.”

Fans attend training session

Many of the die-hard UAE football fans attended the training session of the national team at the Aspire Stadium ahead of the crucial tie against Qatar on Wednesday. The players and officials welcomed the fans and thanked them for the nice support. The upcoming games may see more spectators making their way to the stadium.
