Valdivia played for Chile in the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. After Chile’s campaign, Valdivia went on vacation before joining the Al Ain Football Club squad.

Al Ain Football Club are in Austria for their pre-season training. Al Ain will play a series of friendlies against Austrian second division club Anif, Puch, one of the third division clubs in Austria, Karabusports from Turkey, Concordia from Romania, Paralimini of Cyprus before playing their last game against the Azerbaijan Olympic team.

Meanwhile, Al Ain captain Majed Al Owais said there won’t be any easy matches despite getting a good draw in the UAE Pro-League and the Etisalat Cup. The draw was held in Dubai on Thursday.

“There are no easy matches in the UAE Pro-league and we have to fight until the last minute of the match to win three points. I wish that we attain success in the new season and fulfill the fans and management’s ambitions. The pre-season training atmosphere has been great and I hope that translates into success,” Majed Al Owais said.

Al Ain’s foreign recruit Jose Sand reckoned that the club will put on a much stronger showing this season. Al Ain finished third in the UAE Pro-League behind winners Al Wahda and second-placed Al Jazira last season.

“Our motivation and spirit is high and the preparation will be completed with the end of the abroad camp in Austria,” Sand said.

The Argentine forward, who finished as the top scorer in the UAE Pro-League last season, was courted by a number of Argentine and Spanish clubs at the end of the season but Sand decided to stay put with Al Ain as he felt he still had some unfinished business to attend to.

“Those offers motivated me to stay and win trophies for Al Ain. I was the top scorer last season but I was not happy because we didn’t win the UAE Pro-League title. I hope to be the top scorer again this season and help Al Ain win the title,” Sand said.

About another foreign recruit Emerson leaving the club, Sand said: “I am not the right person to comment about Emerson leaving Al Ain but Al Ain’s march will continue to fulfill the fans and management ambitions by redoubling our efforts and showing fighting spirit.”

Sand hoped that the Al Ain fans will rally around the team again this season.

Meanwhile, Al Ain midfielder Salem Abdulla and the goalkeeper Sulttan Mussabah joined the squad in Austria after their medical tests in Munich, Germany.

The pre-season training is being overseen by assistant coaches Ahmed Abdulla and Brazilian Marco.
