A total of 217 Emirati women are beefing up the UAE's foreign policy as part of the country's drive to empower women and boost their role in the country, Arabic daily Al Bayan has reported.
Of the total, 42 Emirati women are working within the UAE's missions around the globe.
The employment of Emirati women is a result of the national strategy to empower female pioneers in the country, which was launched by Shaikha Fatima bin Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union, Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
Currently, five women hold the title of envoys: Shaikha Najlaa Al Qasimi (Portugal), Dr Hessa Abdullah Ahmed Al Otaiba (Spain), Hafsah Al Almaa (Montenegro), Lana Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations; and Nora Juma, Consul-General of the UAE to Italy.
The four strategic priorities of the national strategy for women empowerment will be implemented in two phases - one from 2015 to 2018, while the second is from 2019 to 2021.
