Marking the Emirati Women's Day celebrations on Friday, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality praised the efforts of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU) and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. Emirati women couldn't have made these achievements without the support and patronage of Shaikha Fatima, a release from the municipality said. She set up the first UAE organisation dedicated to women's affairs - the Abu Dhabi Women Renaissance Society, followed by the GWU, Family Development Foundation, and Refugee Women Fund (dedicated to refugee mothers).
Celebrating Emirati Women's Day is an occasion to savour the achievements of Emirati women under our prudent leadership, empowering them to contribute to the growth rates and an array of political, economic and social achievements, the release added.
Since the formation of the UAE Federation, Emirati women have enjoyed a prestigious position and endeavoured to prove they are worthy of partnering with their fellow males in building the nation and defending the homeland.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has hired more than 173 women who have taken up key positions and play strategic roles in supporting the municipal business, improving municipal services, and measuring up to the requirements of sustainable development in an effective manner.
According to the municipality, the achievements made by Emirati women along with their fellow Emirati male employees in steering the development drive, are the outcome of the unlimited support accorded by Shaikha Fatima. The municipality has utilised the energies and expertise of Emirati women in supporting the municipal work and has assigned paramount attention to enhancing the competencies of these employees by providing numerous training courses.
The municipality has also adopted an open-door policy through the 'Marhaban Alsaa' initiative, which has benefited female employees and established direct contact with the top leadership.
Utmost care is paid to the health and safety of women in general and female employees in particular through awareness and educational workshops targeting both genders, particularly women.
