Children of jailed convicts can now communicate with their parents in Abu Dhabi prisons through a video chat service, with the introduction of a new visual electronic system by judicial authorities.
Authorities said an inmate at Al Wathba prison was able to communicate with his children via the video chat service. The children were able to see and communicate with their father through the system. They had not seen their father for close to four months as they couldn't be allowed to enter the police station or correctional facilities.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said on Saturday that it launched the video communication system to achieve their vision of providing services to children of the inmates through modern means of communication while taking into account the legal limitations.
The new system was launched in cooperation with the Department of Rehabilitation and Punitive Facilities in Abu Dhabi.
The system was adopted under the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Head of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, in an effort to protect children and their families.
Yousuf Saeed Al Abri, undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, stressed the importance of the system, especially in cases where children would love to see or communicate with their parents directly when they are sick or in difficult situations.
The system is intended to sustain the relationship and association between a child and his parents through direct visual communication.
