Dubai Customs has submitted 1,527 smart ideas to the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Council in eight months since the inception of the council in October 2015 until the end of June this year.
As many as 687 of these out of the box ideas were approved, according to Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs.
"The ideas approved represent some 45 per cent of the overall ideas submitted."
The DC staffers are so keen to participate in the process of continuous development across this smart platform of new ideas and innovations, he added.
"This help in stimulating creativity and innovation in the community through the provision of an integrated smart platform to receive new development ideas in Dubai."
"Our suggestions section follows up the interaction of employees with the ideas received from Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Council and the Unified Suggestion System of Dubai Government."
This follow up is done by a number of creativity ambassadors from all sections and centres, Musabih added.
"They are keen to develop staff ideas before referring them to the management for approval."
Small and medium ideas are applied by the concerned departments while large ones are transferred to the competent work teams to conduct the required studies and determine the executive steps for turning them into initiatives and projects.
Ibtisam Mohammed Saleh, an employee of the Coastal Customs Centres Management, said the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Council serves as a smart and efficient platform.
"It ensures the flow of innovative ideas that can be turned into procedures or innovations."
Najla Darwish, from the Dubai Free Zone and Dubai Silicon Oasis Customs Centre, said they were urged to bring forth new ideas to contribute to the development of the emirate of Dubai through the development of services and facilities provided to customers in support of trade and economic growth."
