The Rental Disputes Settlement Centre, the legal arm of Dubai's Land Department, has provided financial assistance to an elderly retired woman, who has lived in the country for 43 years and was facing eviction.
The centre's 'helping hand' committee agreed to pay the 75-year-old resident's rent and talk with the landlord to waive the eviction warning. The committee paid Dh48,000 in late rent and has convinced the landlord to pledge to never vacate the woman, Emarat Al Youm reported.
The head of the committee said that the woman used to work as a nurse before retirement and has two children who look after her. However, her son can't support her financially on his Dh6,000 salary and her daughter is still studying medicine, he said.
He pointed out that the committee has developed a system to identify the cases that need help, including financial and familial status.
